CALL FOR AWARDS APPLICATION

Inspired by Tiny Love Stories (The New York Times), the Organizing Committee of the 9th OpenTESOL International Conference 2021 (http://opentesol.ou.edu.vn/) invites you to participate in Tiny Teach Stories: TESOL Awards 2021 competition. The award is sponsored by Ho Chi Minh City TESOL Association and HorizonTESOL (http://tesolcourse.edu.vn/en/).

OVERVIEW

Participants will write a short story of no more than 100 words narrating/describing a memorable/critical classroom incident in their English classroom or any learning contexts. The story should be supplemented with an original photo/illustration/drawing created by the participant. 
Participants should read ​Tiny Love Stories on The New York Times to familiarize themselves with its tone, voice and beauty.

ELIGIBILITY

1. This competition is open to junior, senior undergraduates, postgraduates, and fresh graduates (2018 onwards) of any majors who desire to become a TESOL teacher.
2. Participants must complete the form entry below for full consideration. Entries must not exceed the word limit.

3. The scholarships cannot be transferred to another person or received in cash.
4. Winners must attend the 9th OpenTESOL Conference 2021 on Saturday 22 May at Ho Chi Minh City to accept the awards and agree to be photographed and filmed by OpenTESOL and HorizonTESOL.
5. Winners must begin the courses within 3 months after June 2021. All courses are face-to-face and take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.


AWARDS

1 First-prize Winner: 100% TESOL 120-hour courses scholarship from HorizonTESOL. The prize is valued at 12,000,000vnd.

2 Second-prize Winners: 50% TESOL 120-hour courses scholarship from Horizon TESOL (courses take place in Ho Chi Minh City). Each prize is valued at 6,000,000vnd.


All winners will receive free registration (500,000vnd) to participate in the 9th OpenTESOL International Conference 2021.


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Your submission can be a Microsoft Word or PDF file. In the file, you should include:
1 A tiny teach story (no more than 100 words)
2 An illustration of the story (a photo or a drawing)
3 A personal statement (no more than 200 words)
Deadline: 11:59PM, Sunday, 9 May 2021.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Members of the Organizing Committee of OpenTESOL 2021 and the Executive Board of HCMC TESOL Association will evaluate participant’s entry and will make final decisions.
Each entry will be evaluated based on:
1. The story (originality, tone, and voice) 

2. The photo/illustration/drawing (focus, lighting, color) 
3. The statement of purpose: Why is winning this scholarship important for participants’ life?
