President of the Australian Association for Research in Education (2006) and member of the National Executive of the Australian Teacher Education Association, and the Languages and Cultures Association of Universities.
Member of the National AARE Award for Doctoral Research in Education Committee (2006-2013)
Co-editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Teacher Education (2010-2013); member of the editorial boards of Modern University Education, Teaching Education and the International Journal of Learning (2007-2016)
awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award in Postgraduate Research, Training and Supervision (2010)
His latest book Deschooling L'earning
 (Palgrave Macmillanm, 2014) explores the rise of capital friendly learning-and-earning webs through the work of leaders committed to deschooling through mobilising capability brokers to create service l'earning networks.
